Homework and Grade Eight workload

Question:
I am going into Grade 8 next year and want to manage my sporting activities with school.  Around how much homework (time) does one get a night?

Response:
Homework and workload is different for everyone. The amount of time one spends doing the work greatly depends on the their efficiency, academic ability, and extra curricular involvement. However, plan to do approximately one hour of homework every night in Grade Eight.
One is usually able to manage their workload. The largest quantity of homework, assignments, and studying usually comes from the Math, Science, English, and Social Studies faculties. PE and electives such as the Fine Arts and Applied Skills rotation in Grade Eight tend to require little to no work at home.
A good time management method for some is to schedule in their homework. For example, if one knows Math homework that evening will require thirty minutes, they will put "Math homework" into their calendar from 16:15-16:45 to work the homework into their extra curricular activities that day.
Are you aware of the Super Achievers programme offered at Rockridge? Dedicated students who perform at a high caliber in sports or arts are sometimes given the last block off every day providing them with time to study and accomodate their busy schedule. Talk to your counsellor to see if your sporting activities make you elegible.

Sincerely,
The Rockridge SOS Team
